Yes, unless Philly decides to fool us again like it always does, the weather is only going to get more beautiful from now. Last weekend in Chinatown, everyone came out to play. We skimmed through from bubble tea shops to ice cream stores, there were long lines of customers waiting for their turn.
One relatively new dessert place we all agree that everyone needs to know is Fruit Life. We have been regulars at Fruit Life for a while already, ever since they opened their doors back in last September. Yet we think now is a perfect time to let everyone fall in love with Chinatown’s tastiest mango shaved ice like how we did.
Specialized in mango sweet treats, the store’s menu consists diverse variations of the tropical weather’s fruit babe. Ranging from brain-freeze sweet treats to warm dessert bowls, their offerings surprised us from one to another. Let us walk you through a visual diary first. And then let you crave for days.
Winter Snow Ball has a scoop of mango ice cream, chewy tapioca balls, diced mango pieces, and fresh mango puree. Since the ingredients were fresh fruits, the sweetness was subtle and delightful. The iconic mango puree was the highlight. You can distinctively differentiate between artificial and natural flavors.
Mango Sundae (Mein Mein Ice, Shaved Ice, Same Concept Different Names): we almost, almost ordered coconut sundae and thank Buddha we didn't. Because their mango sundae was to die for. One downside was the bitterness from pomelo bits, maybe because they were pre-shredded. OR because pomelo is a seasonal fruit, right now you can't expect to have good quality ones.
Another Fruit Life's signature is their pochette. We picked durian. Again, another pleasant surprise. The custard wrap was soft and tender, filled with homemade whipped cream and durian pieces. Every order came with 5 pieces but frankly, everyone should get their own. This stuff is not for sharing.
Also, we're not sure if the promotion is still running, but if you check in on Facebook and present it before paying the bill, you will be gifted a small teddy bear. When we were there it was cash only, they do have an ATM outside so just bring some with you to avoid frustration.
Visit them today and let us know what you think!
